Abraham Lincoln's Ten Guidelines

The emphasis and foundation of the Republican party from over a hundred years ago. amazing that it still applies now. My husband commented on how contemporary it sounds for its age. You know what? He's right. Lincoln and our other founding fathers would roll over in their graves if they knew what was going on now. We've allowed selfish, greedy, narcissists to take over and destroy the country our ancestors died for. My notes are in parenthesis)

1. You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift. (savings/investments, retirement)

2. You cannot help small men by tearing down big men. (windfall taxes, repealing tax cuts)

3. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. (weapons ban, armed forces reductions)

4. You cannot lift the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer. (enforcing minimum wages and or healthcare)

5. You cannot help the poor man by destroying the rich. (redistribution of wealth aka socialism, high taxes)

6. You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than your income.(earmarks, stimulus packages, medicaid, medicare, massive budgets)

7. You cannot further the brotherhood of men by inciting class hatred. (two Americas, playing the racist card to get your way)

8 You cannot establish security on borrowed money. (How much do we now owe China? Why can we not drill our own oil or build/refurbish our refineries?)

9 You cannot build character and courage by taking away man's initiative and independence. (welfare, socialized programs, penalizing successful business ventures)

10. You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves. (retirement, savings/investments, healthcare, stupid laws like the smoking bans, government housing, food stamps)

We've some so far but slid backwards at the same time somehow. Time to take back what is ours. Vote Republican no matter how bad the stench.

Typical Republican; pontificating lies and inaccuracies. Hate to break it to you M, Lincoln never said those things.

The Ten "You Cannots" Abraham Lincoln Did Not Say
Statement

There is a list of ten statements beginning with "You cannot .. ." that are popularly attributed to Abraham Lincoln, (1809 - 1865) Sixteenth President of the United States. They sound so wise and so much like things he would have said that they are frequently quoted and attributed to him in print. They are:

1. You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
2. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong
3. You cannot help the poor man by destroying the rich.
4. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
5. You cannot build character and courage by taking away man's initiative and independence.
6. You cannot help small men by tearing down big men.
7. You cannot lift the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer.
8. You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than your income.
9. You cannot establish security on borrowed money.
10. You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they will not do for themselves.

But alas! Lincoln did not say these things. They were written in 1916 by the Rev. William J. H. Boetcker, a Presbyterian clergyman and pamphlet writer. In 1942, a group called the Committee for Constitutional Government gave out a great many leaflets entitled "Lincoln on Limitations" that contained on one side a real Lincoln quote and on the other side the 10 Boetcker statements. Boetcker was credited with his statements on the leaflet, but their proximity in print to one real quote by Lincoln, plus the title of the leaflet, led people to think that Lincoln had said the ten listed statements. They were repeated in many printed sources, and are still regarded by many as authentic Lincoln quotes. Carl Sandburg, Lincoln's most famous biographer, dismissed them as spurious.

And LIBERALS know all about pontificating and spewing forth lies wouldn't you. See that post a few entries down, Obama is caught red-handed in his own words lying repeatedly.

Seems that's what all POLITICIANS do best no mater what coor flag they ride in under.
