Making the Internet 'Pen' mightier than the sword

It's election season so the Democrats are trying the 'Fairness Doctrine' angle again. Click the title for more.

Every time the Democrats start getting scared of the truth leaking out about their plans or their candidates or both they start calling for the 'Fairness Doctrine'.

What does this fairness doctrine do?

In short: Grants free airtime to opposing parties to refute any information given on various and sundried talk shows. What it does is wear down the stations who host the conservative talk shows. They pre-empt other programming to honor 'equal time' for the rebuttal. That costs them their revenues. They cancel the talk shows in favor of local programming instead. Effectively killing talk radio. Where's the "Fairness" in that?

What I don't understand is why it's okay to 'bash Bush' and defame the United States on Democrat Talk Radio, like Air America, but it isn't hate speech. It's enlightened thinking. It's okay for them to lose their temper. They're voicing their feelings. They preach and teach victimization as a way of life and it's called compassion. If this is truly the way Democrats think the average American thinks and feels, why did Air America go bankrupt?

But, if one Conservative talk show host, like Mark Levin, Rush Limbaugh, or Sean Hannity say something about the Democrats or one of their policies, back it up with public record, it's called hate speech and fear mongering. The Conservative talk shows, unlike Liberal talk Radio shows, are lucrative for radio stations. Maybe there's a bit of jealousy in there?

The Democrats have a problem with Conservative Talk Radio too, because it has had an impact on their policy and platform in the past few years like immigration reform and the border fence. They don't want their constituents informed and involved. In fact, they out right resent when the average American voices an opinion other than what the politician wanted to hear.

They want the Fairness Doctrine.

Never mind, FCC chairman Kevin Martin said last year Fairness Doctrine NOT needed

Ah, but momma Pelosi is going to try again anyway. After all, us average pee ons can't tell her what to do or tell the politician's how we want our country run.

It is this Simple Country Girl's opinion that the Democrats are all too happily chipping away at our first amendment right to free speech. Their weapon of choice is the Fairness Doctrine. Our weapon of choice should be in the form of a vote this fall. In the meantime, I intend to make my Internet 'pen' mightier than my sword until the elections in November.
